Your Own Private Island Awaits You ...
The 10,000-acre Little St. Simons Island is one of the most unique barrier islands on Georgia's coast. Only 20 of the island's 10,000 acres are developed and the owners' commitment to preservation and stewardship was recognized with the "Benchmarked" certification by Green Globe 21, a global benchmarking, certification and improvement program for sustainable tourism and travel. Just two organizations in the United States have been awarded this certification. The privately owned island has remained virtually untouched for centuries and features ancient maritime forests with hundred-year-old live oak trees, tidal marshlands and seven miles of pristine beaches, one of the few remaining beaches on the eastern shore board that is actually growing rather than eroding. During the past year, the island's 1,500-square-foot historic barn was restored to provide additional space for activities and meetings. During the renovation, the owner's preserved the charm of the historic barn with reclaimed wood and other materials and added geothermal heating and cooling systems, in line with the island's conservation and preservation practices. The island features six cabins, some dating back to 1917, offering accommodations for 32 guests.
Description
Virtually untouched for centuries, Little St. Simons Island is a privately owned 10,000-acre island just off the Georgia coast. Accessible only by boat, Little St. Simons Island retains the charm and unhurried pace of coastal living in an extraordinary world of abundant wildlife, moss-draped live oaks, untouched forests, shimmering marshes and pristine beaches. Nature rules the roost at this all-inclusive getaway, where the Island and all its riches are shared with no more than 32 overnight guests.
The crown jewel of the Island is a breathtakingly beautiful beach. With low dunes and a wide sandy shoreline, the beach stretches for seven shell-strewn miles along the Atlantic Ocean. Completely undeveloped, guests marvel at its privacy and have long enjoyed the rare luxury of having the entire beach to themselves. Especially during the summers, Little St. Simons Island's secluded beaches provide a respite from crowded seaside destinations.
